Enemies
For the past month I've been working on the final designs and models for my groups flying shooter. I decided that all the enemies should be as simple as possible so I only used spheres and cylinders when designing and modelling them. This not only makes it easier on the eye, but also it helped make modelling and texturing them easier as well.
I also made ammunition in photoshop to go along with each enemy which can be used within the game. I used the PSD network to work on the UV textures both in maya and photoshop. I used simple colours to help the enemies pop out and look attractive and a simple bump map for the details.
Lazer copter
I decided to use purple for the primary colour for the Lazer Copter as I wanted a futuristic neon look to the design. Although I failed to get the glow effect to work from the PSDs I will try and use the particle effects in Unity if I have time.
Machine Gunner
I spent the most time on the Machine Gunner design as I tried to lower the polycount to a respectable level. The added spheres and cylinders escalated the polycount all the way to 5000 polys whereas are target was below 1000. After tweaking at the edgeloops and deleting faces I managed to get the poly count down below 1000 polys.
Missile Launcher
The Missile Launcher was the simplest design out of the three. I just selected a couple of faces to extrude for create a launchpad for the missiles. Adding a simple camouflage texture and a simple bump map for the missile ammunition the design was quickly finished.
